I'll be honest, I am not typically an oatmeal person in regards to eating a bowl for breakfast. There are just other things I would rather eat. I always have good intentions to be an oatmeal breakfast eater, but every time I try, I am not satisfied and end up being disappointed that I didn't just eat something else for breakfast. At this point the calories have been consumed and I have to move on to being excited about lunch. However, my savory oats with parmesan and olive oil were a game changer for me and I think you are going to love them too!
I have a confession to make...
When I was in high school I bought a solid white leather pant/jacket outfit with silver studs on the shoulders and thought I was pretty cool. Now looking back, I am not sure that "cool" was the correct word to describe the outfit, I'm pretty sure it was closer to an Elvis impersonator outfit, ha. If you had asked my best friend, she would have thought it was pretty rad, but that is only because she had a solid teal leather outfit...who did we think we were at 17? Sometimes I need to remember to be that fearless 17 year old who simply loved fashion. Bottom line...I was going to wear what I wanted to wear because it made me feel good.
One of the things I like to do for meal prepping is to make sauces at the beginning of the week. I like this because even if I don't know exactly what is on the menu, if I have a delicious sauce in the fridge waiting on me, I can usually creates a yummy dinner in no time! Sauces like my basic basil pesto are one of my staples that I almost always have on hand! When I say basic basil pesto, that is not to take away from how utterly delicious a basic pesto actually can be. What I mean is that it is the most simple form of pesto, a basic formula to build on for any future pesto creations. I love having a batch of this in the fridge or the freezer for pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, eggs, and more and I think you are going to love making a homemade basic basil pesto in your kitchen too!
Can you see me?
Sorry, I couldn't resist...
Moving on to the real reason we are here...
Military inspired fashion has been reappearing year after year and for good reason. I love the button details, the color army green itself (I have 3 army green jackets), and structured garments mixed with unexpected feminine pieces. I really dig that anyone can wear the look the way that fits their individual style. This season, a whole new level of military fashion was thrown on the table. I don't know about you, but when I first got a glimpse of Camo on the runways, I was a little fearful of the look and how it would be interpreted by women everywhere. I feel that Camo has the potential to go really wrong really fast! I also believe that when worn with the right pieces it can, in fact, be a great addition to your fall wardrobe.
I'll be honest, baking is not my strongest skill in the kitchen. Believe me it's not because I don't enjoy baked goods, because I do for sure! The not being able to wing it thing gets me every time. I rarely follow a recipe to its exact specifications, so that is why cooking is way more fun for me. However, I do have some go to recipes that I will bake from time to time when the mood strikes. These pumpkin muffins happen to be one of those recipes.
After living at least eight hours away from my mom and dad for over ten years, by chance we have both landed ourselves in Texas, an hour and fifteen minutes away from each other without even trying! They recently moved to the coast of Texas, which happens to be really beautiful. I had no idea...did you? Since the ocean is my favorite place in the world, this works out great for me! To take advantage, this weekend we loaded the pups and headed south so we could put our toes in the sand and feel the ocean breeze on our skin. The weekend was full of beautiful views, great food, SEC football, and family time.
