Vintage Camo

Can you see me?

Sorry, I couldn't resist...

Moving on to the real reason we are here...

Military inspired fashion has been reappearing year after year and for good reason.  I love the button details, the color army green itself (I have 3 army green jackets), and structured garments mixed with unexpected feminine pieces.  I really dig that anyone can wear the look the way that fits their individual style.  This season, a whole new level of military fashion was thrown on the table.   I don't know about you, but when I first got a glimpse of Camo on the runways, I was a little fearful of the look and how it would be interpreted by women everywhere.  I feel that Camo has the potential to go really wrong really fast!   I also believe that when worn with the right pieces it can, in fact, be a great addition to your fall wardrobe.  I knew I wanted something Camo for the season, because it would mesh perfectly with my style,  but I had to find the right piece to know if it was really for me or not.

I was in Warrenton, Texas at an antique show when I walked right into a booth that had a ton of these really amazing vintage women's Camo jackets from the 60's-90's, all which had been worn by actual soldiers.  I loved the fact that I would be rocking a jacket that represented someone's dedication and sacrifice for our country!  So after about 45 minutes in 125 degree heat and by now, dripping with sweat, I decided on the one for me.  Not to mention it was only 25 bucks!  Talk about a steal, I had to send a pic to my husband and show him what a bargain I had found, I am not sure he was as excited as me, but oh well!  Needless to say, this ended up being my favorite purchase of the weekend and I was pretty pumped to bring the jacket home and give it a new life!  The heat in Texas has just now cooled down enough to where I can even think about wearing it, so I thought I would share two of my favorite ways to wear Camo this fall.

With Look number one, I paired the jacket with some twill pants that have exposed zippers, a lace and crochet top, some wedges, and then layered it with a great scarf and lots of arm candy!  What I love about this look is its effortless, its comfy yet put together.  You could easily substitute what I'm wearing for some denim, another feminine top,  switch your accessories, and swap the shoes for some killer boots and you are done!  It's a formula, that's all, and one that is meant to be adapted for your own style, so don't be afraid to play around with it!

Aviators are optional...

For look two, I paired the jacket with one of my favorite dresses, some tights, again some arm candy (I am rarely seen without it), and some great ankle boots.  I love that this jacket is so versatile and can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion.  I have a feeling it is going to be my go to jacket this fall.  I am actually falling more in love with it as we talk.   Again, swap out the components for your favorites in your closet and you are good to go.

I hope that if you do not have a Camo piece in your wardrobe already for fall, that maybe now you will give it a shot!  If you already do, then I can't wait to see you out and about looking fierce.

While vintage is definitely a good thing, be careful if you are thinking about raiding your husband or father's hunting gear..I'm not sure that is the Camo look we are going for!
