I had a whole other post planned for today. It was a super yummy recipe that is perfect for your Memorial Day plans. However, last night we had a lovely visitor and I thought you might enjoy hearing a little story about a dog named Amos and a skunk that went head to head in our very own backyard. Don't worry I will get that recipe to you tomorrow, but last night couldn't have been made up. Was there a cruel joke being played on me? Was it a patience test for motherhood? Perhaps testing my ability to stay awake throughout the night...yes that must be it. Whatever the reason was, it happened...we got skunked.
I say "we" because even though it was Amos who was the targeted victim of Mr. Skunk, we all lost the battle here. Our house now has the lovely aroma of skunk spray and I just haven't figured out why there is not a plug-in for the home that has been created with this very same scent...it's quite lovely. The whole burning of your throat, watering of your eyes, and pungent aroma that makes you gag is something we all seek for our homes right? No? Oh right...because it's horrible, absolutely the worst smell I could have ever imagined.
So there we were midnight in our driveway (in our pj's) bathing our crazy hound dog three times to get him smelling somewhat decent so he could come inside for the night...not that it mattered because the house was already smelling so lovely. "Hey, we're the new neighbors...don't mind us."
If there was ever a moment where you question your love for your animal it's at midnight when all you want to do is sleep but instead you are in your driveway bathing him because he decided it would be fun to trick me into thinking he had to poo when really he knew all along there was a critter in the backyard.
Our dogs put themselves to bed before 8 pm almost every night. And when I tell you they will not get up for anything, they really won't. They refuse to get up and potty and so when one of them wakes up at an odd hour and wakes me up...usually it's because there is a emergency potty break that needs to happen.
I won't be so easily fooled the next time a cold wet nose so desperately nudges me to climb out of my perfect position in bed and let him outside. Oh no...the way our house smells I think I would have rather had an accident than to be dealing with the after effects of chasing skunks.
My day today has been derailed because I made the decision to let Amos out last night. I could kick myself. I have about a hundred things that all need to get done today, but first on the agenda is operation de-skunk my house and dog. I'll be heading to the store to buy all things deodorizing including vinegar, peroxide, baking soda, new air filters, febreeze and whatever else I can find.
If you need me today I'll be in rubber gloves scrubbing floors and walls (dripping in sweat no doubt) trying to get my house smelling somewhat decent. And please if you have suggestions for me, I'm all ears! I am desperate here people...hit me with any old wives tale that you've ever heard!
I do promise to get you the delicious post originally scheduled for today by tomorrow! But thanks friend for letting me ramble here...I'm still thinking I'll wake up from this horrible dream!
