Friday Pregnancy Confessions, Volume 3

I'm two days away from entering week 27 of this pregnancy journey.  It really seems like just yesterday I found out I was pregnant.  Time is flying by and in 13 weeks I will have a little tiny human (or maybe not so tiny based upon how he is growing) to take care of.  This is both terrifying and really exciting to be honest.  I mean it's FOREVER guys!  I get to have him, as mine, forever!  So crazy.  As I approach my third trimester, I thought I would give you my updated Friday pregnancy confessions over the past couple of months!

These days Canean and I spend most of our nights talking about our sweet baby boy and all the things we will do with him.  We imagine how exciting all of his firsts of everything will be.  First ice cream cone, first bike ride with dad, first time he says dada or mama, the list goes on and on.  And while we are so ready to meet our little one in theory, we are also trying to soak in these last months where it's just the two of us together in our house.  While life is sure to be better than either of us could imagine, poopy diapers and sleepless nights included, we also know that life is going to change in a big way.  We, as a couple will change as a result and so we are trying to be conscious and savor these last days where our little human is still safely tucked inside my belly.  For now, it's just me and his dad loving each other and preparing for the arrival of the greatest gift either of us could ever receive.

Cantaloupe Salty Dog: My Diary of Us

Cantaloupe Salty Dog

Give me all the melons.  I am currently eating cantaloupe and watermelon like I'll never see another one in my entire life.  They are so sweet and candy like and lately they have been saving me from binging on things like sour patch kids...true story.  Of course that's the preggers in me talking.  If I wasn't pregnant however, I would be sipping on one of my cantaloupe salty dogs as often as I could because it just might be the perfect summer cocktail!

I grew up salting my melons.  That's the way all of the women in my family do it.  "It brings out the flavor", my mom would always tell me.  And you know what?  She was right.  It really does make any melon extra delicious.  Canean thinks I am crazy and has never hopped on the salted melon band wagon.  But, that's okay...he doesn't know what he's missing!

Whole Wheat Sausage, Grape, and Ricotta Pizza: My Diary of Us

Whole Wheat Sausage, Grape, and Ricotta Pizza

Sweet and salty always wins me over.  It gives me the best of both worlds and satisfies all of my cravings.  I recently heard about an Italian dish that was so simple, but so genius.  It was literally roasted sausage and grapes that were cooked together!  I immediately knew this was a combination that I had to try out for myself!  The marriage of pork and a sweet fruit is not a new idea by any means.  I have used figs, cantaloupe, peaches...the list goes on.  For some reason though, I have never thought to use grapes!  And what a pleasant surprise it was!  My sausage, grape, and ricotta pizza is the perfect sweet and salty combo that makes for a light and summery pizza!

If I could only eat one food for the rest of my life, pizza would be a top contender.  I love it.  Most weeks I find a way to eat it, whether it's takeout, homemade, or even easy pita pizzas will do the trick.  I'm not picky either.  I like it with sauce, no sauce, veggie, or meat lover style.  I am very non-judgmental when it comes to how I like my pizza.  Is anyone with me here?  Maybe it's because I love carbs and cheese, but regardless you guys have to get on board with this new combination of pizza!

Raspberry and Lime Vodka Sno Cones: My Diary of Us

Raspberry and Lime Vodka Sno Cones

I've been planning out our 4th of July menu for a couple of days now.  We have friends coming into town from Louisiana and I have been figuring out what our menu is going to look like over the weekend, including cocktails!  For the 4th we are going all American and I'll be serving up ribs, homemade baked beans, corn, and slaw and I thought the perfect cocktail to accompany such a menu needed to be super summery, fresh, and fun!  My raspberry and lime vodka sno cones are the ultimate 4th of July drink to serve up at any celebration this weekend!

I never outgrew the sno cone age.  I have loved them right into adulthood.  I am not

Fresh Berry Salad with Whipped Cream: My Diary of Us

Fresh Berry Salad with Whipped Cream

It's hard to believe that June is almost over and it's already time for July 4th!  This year is speeding by and just like that we are halfway through the year.  Before you know it Halloween will be here and then Christmas...which is maybe a little dramatic, but seriously it will be here in the blink of an eye!  Do you have big plans for the 4th?  We have friends coming into town and will probably find some fireworks to watch, head down to the water for the day, and of course will be eating lots of yummy food (duh).  One item that will be on my 4th of July menu is my fresh berry salad with whipped cream for dessert!  It's the easiest, no bake dessert and you don't have to feel as bad about eating it either!

After all, we will all be indulging a little more than usual with all the BBQ and celebrating that will be happening over the course of the weekend, so it's kinda nice to have a light dessert option!  Berries are still gorgeous just about everywhere right now and to me, they just go with the 4th of July!

Cherry French 75: My Diary of Us

Cherry French 75

Summer has arrived guys.  The heat is rising and it is HOT out there.  Our poor air conditioner hasn't been able to take a break and I wish I could tell it how much this pregnant lady appreciates being able to stay cool.  The thought of going to buy a baby pool to put on the back porch for me to sit in, maybe with ice surrounding me, is becoming more and more appealing with each passing day.  The only other thing that makes Summer more tolerable is a refreshing cocktail which is totally necessary in order to survive the heat.  I'll have to stick to mocktails for now, but for you...for you I bring you the cherry French 75!  Perfectly refreshing and summery, and sure to help you forget about your sweat drenched bra.

And don't pretend that you don't know about the sweat drenched bra.  It's a thing, and there isn't anything sexy about it.  For you guys who probably aren't wearing bras, I'm sure you can still relate!  Good thing for you if you are holding one of these cocktails, not only will you forget about your sweltering body, but others around you will too.
