Packing Issues: My Diary of Us

Packing Issues

I love traveling, but I hate packing...like literally, hate it and I'm horrible at it.  I always pack more than I should and always test the fifty pound weight limit on checked bags.  It's pretty much guaranteed that when we go somewhere and I am checking a bag, I always teeter on about fifty-two pounds or so, just over the limit (I think I just have heavy luggage).  Inevitably I end up having to put my hair dryer or toiletries in Canean's bag which he absolutely can't stand.  I still haven't figured out what the big deal is.  I just have a few packing issues.

If by chance I happen to come under the fifty pound mark, his face lights up like Christmas.  It's the little things in life in moments like these.  I guess I should really try harder because when my suitcase weighs under fifty,  it really starts our trip off with a bang.  And seeing him that excited about my luggage being under weight is pretty cute too.  You would think it would be some serious motivation to pack smarter...you would think.

Today I'm headed to Arizona to see one of my best friends, Teresa.  I'm only going for three nights, so I am forcing myself to take just a carry on.  At least I won't have to worry about paying the extra heavy luggage fee today.  And since I am traveling solo, there would be no one for me to hand my extra stuff over to anyway and that would be a problem.

It still doesn't change the fact that picking such few items for a carry on is pretty scary for me.  Even if all we do is get pedicures, lay by the pool, and we cook some yummy meals for her freezer.  What if something else pops up and I'm not prepared?

I long to be one of those fabulous women who take five items and mix and match them perfectly over their trip and never end up spilling red wine or spaghetti sauce down the front of that one white blouse that they brought.  I just don't think it's in the cards for me.

I never know my outfit mood until the day of, I tend to spill things on me, and honestly I just like plenty of options should a surprise activity take place.

If you are an expert packer, I need your help.  Please give me some tips so when Canean and I go to Florida for a week in October, I can make him proud with my under fifty suitcase.

For today anyway, I am going to hope I have everything I need with my chosen items and try not to add too many last minute items out of sheer panic in those last seconds before zipping up my luggage.

Packing issues are a real thing.
