These birds. These birds were at the beach everyday that I was there last week. They loved each other, they squawked at each other, they seemed to look out for each other. Every morning when we made our way down to the beach, these two lovebirds would appear. Is it strange that I saw my own marriage in these two little birds? I saw a glimpse of us in different points throughout the whole week in fact...a glimpse of the future us.
A year ago I was in Round Top, Texas and met the talented and interesting, Sarah Smith. She is a native of Minnesota, currently living in Tennessee. She is a flea market lover, a creator, entrepreneur, and one hell of a lady if you ask me. She is the founder of Sarah Smith Salvage Style (in this pic she sold the Smith right before I got this shot.)
Her originality is what drew me in immediately. Everything has her style written all over it.
By now you might already know about my new obsession with this shallot and curry vinaigrette....if not you are about to. I think you either love curry or you don't. I happen to love it like I love garlic. So that means I love it a lot! I actually scored this vinaigrette recipe from my Fine Cooking Magazine, in their Cook Fresh edition. I made it with grilled chicken and couscous the first go around and loved it so much I had to make it again. Most of the time when I recipe test I have to tweek a thing or two before I post it to the blog...well not this grilled chicken, cantaloupe, and goat cheese spinach salad...it was perfection the first time, but I made it again just to make sure!
It's the perfect balance of textures and flavors that just scream summer salad. Not to mention the colors tell you this salad is good for you. It would be great as a lunch or served as dinner with some Naan bread.
There is something about the mild onion and curry flavor mixed with the grilled charred chicken, the sweet cantaloupe, and the creamy goat cheese! I love it and will be making it all summer long!
Date nights. I highly recommend them. They don't happen enough. They are so good in so many ways. You dress up. There's that newly dating feeling as you get ready and he hasn't seen you yet. Your hair is done a little more. Your makeup is applied extra careful. You feel hot!
You see him...there are butterflies. He put a little cologne on. His hair is a little extra messy (in a good way of course). That shirt. Those jeans. He's lookin' good!
This...this is why date nights are good.
It gives us a glimpse at life before we got comfortable...the old us for a night, you know the one who has makeup on and isn't in yoga pants for the night (or is that just me?) The times before farts became an acceptable thing to do in front of each other. Those nights where you just can't wait to get each other home because the anticipation has built all night...
Well Canean and I had our first date night in a while last Friday night. We went to New Orleans and ate at one of my favorite restaurants called The Green Goddess and then went to the Kings of Leon concert. It was such a great night with my favorite person and it was filled with yummy food, great music, laughter, and us...
Can't ask for much more.
Every year Easter time rolls around and every year I find myself with Mini Cadbury Eggs stocked in my freezer. Because that's how I like to eat my chocolate, right out of the freezer. I have no idea what goes into these tiny little pastel candy coated eggs filled with the most delicious milk chocolate, but whatever it is it's addicting and delicious.
I got to thinking since I like my Cadbury eggs out of the freezer, why not make some ice cream and add them to the mix? I also happen to love ice cream sandwiches, so why not sandwich the ice cream right between two double chocolate chip cookies with a little sea salt on top (because we have to balance the sweet right?)
So it happened, Mini Cadbury Egg Vanilla Ice Cream and Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches were made!
I mean it really might be my best ice cream sandwich yet! The ice cream is smooth with bits of crunchy mini eggs and then you have the chewy cookie on top and bottom and holy cow...it's out of this world. And listen I am usually a dark chocolate girl any day of the week, but not with Cadbury Mini Eggs...give me the milk chocolate any day.
You like how I tend to use holidays as an excuse for making something not so healthy for me? You are probably starting to realize that every holiday big or small I somehow manage to squeeze a sweet treat in the mix. I like to think that the calories don't do as much damage if you are eating them to celebrate something special.
Why should Easter be any different? These ice cream sandwiches would be the perfect grand finale to your Easter dinner spread guaranteed to please all of your friends and family!
Let's talk favorites.
Wardrobe favorites that is. Everybody has them. Pieces that are your go-to, buy five colors of staples. Items that get way more attention than the rest of your closet. I am guilty of playing favorites when it comes to fashion. And really no matter what the fashion trends are, these same items keep their spot as number one in the favorites department, I just change the way I wear them.
For me, I tend to collect white t-shirts, bohemian jewelry, cargos, booties, and leather bags. They can all work together, but they are also versatile and can be transformed from casual to dressy in a flash.
They are easy. I like easy when it comes to fashion. Easy is good.
