Saturday Discoveries

Every Saturday it's the same routine...I wake up at seven to get to the local farmer's market by eight so that I can snatch up all of the best goodies before they all get gone, I come home plan out my week's menu, and then usually do some housework, some blog work, and then that evening we usually get takeout or end up going out to eat.  It's a great Saturday actually and there really is no reason to disturb my routine...but I have had a couple people recently telling me about how the Lafayette farmer's market is really neat, and the town itself has great food and is super cute.

A girlfriend and I decided to shake up our Saturday routines (which is really good to do) and head to Lafayette, Louisiana yesterday and make a day of it by hitting up the farmer's market, eating lunch and exploring the town a little.  It was a great day and I had no idea that I had been missing out on a place that is less than an hour down the road.

It's Cajun country at its best, so the market was full of unique vendors, live Cajun music, and lots of yummy smells coming from every direction...and there was face painting, which of course we had to partake in!   There we were, two thirty somethings waiting in line with all the other little girls who were getting their face painted too, and I'm not sure who was more excited..us or them.  Probably us...

Teddy's Juke Joint.jpg

Saturday Night Juke Joints and Sunday Morning Waffles

About two years ago we went to a little hole in the wall juke joint out in the middle of nowhere.  Turns out it might be one of the coolest things about where we live.  We've been meaning to go back ever since we moved back to Louisiana, and finally made the trip on Saturday night!  It was a night filled with blues music, late night food, and friends.  And then we topped off an amazing night and weekend by waking up late Sunday morning and eating Canean's favorite Sunday breakfast, waffles and bacon.  What could be better than Saturday night juke joints and Sunday morning waffles?

Not much...I'll tell ya!

It was the perfect weekend filled with all of the things that feed my soul.  Music, food, friends, and most of all, Canean.

Teddy's Juke Joint is an old house (where Teddy himself was born) converted into a little bar and stage where real blues musicians come and still play on a weekly basis.  It's Louisiana as Louisiana can get and that's what I love most about it.  There isn't an inch of empty ceiling or wall space because it's all filled with souvenirs, license plates from all states, mardi gras beads, and other collectibles from over the years.  It's probably one of the only places where you will find all walks of life, races, and ages all brought together for one thing...good music.

Tennessee Walking Path.jpg

Tennessee

I am originally from Tennessee, East Tennessee to be exact, and don't get to visit as often as I would like.  It is usually a big event that brings me back home, and this weekend was no different.

This past weekend we traveled to Tennessee to celebrate my friend Katie and her new husband Jeff on their big day!  It was a perfect weekend filled with roller coasters (literally), amazing food, people I love dearly, and beautiful surroundings!  Not to mention Canean and I got to celebrate our sixth wedding anniversary while being surrounded by those we love so much!

We started the festivities off with a trip to Dollywood, for those of you who do not know it is an amusement park themed around the one and only Dolly Parton!  Yes, it's as amazing as it sounds.  We road roller coasters all day, which was not something I usually partake in, but I did it and had a blast...even though my face in every picture looked like my life was in danger.  See image below...

The Sunshine State Part Two: Miami

I had always imagined Miami to be the city that never sleeps, full of wild parties, white beaches, and beautiful people.  Turns out, that was a pretty close assumption.

But...there is also a whole lot more, like amazing food, culture, and it's a great place to live an active lifestyle.  We had the best time and really enjoyed Miami even more than we thought we would have.

We have a friend who has lived there for a while now, and we decided since we were going to be so close already in Palm Beach, we would test out the Miami waters as well and were not disappointed.

First let me tell you that we consumed some of the best food and I have too much to share with you to squeeze it in this post, but don't worry I'll post another day...

The Sunshine State Part 1: Hobe Sound

I don't know if I told you yet, but we are moving to Florida!

Ok well not in the near future, but someday we are going to move to Florida...by the ocean where life is simple and good.

Canean is going to have a fishing charter and I am going to blog and sunbathe...well that's how I see it in my head anyway.  We decided this out last week while we were on our trip.  We had THE best time with the best company and amazing surroundings.

One of my best friends lives in Hobe Sound, Florida.  A quiet little beach town about thirty minutes from West Palm Beach.  We had not seen each other in two years...two years!  It is absurd how busy life gets and how much time can pass so quickly in a blink of an eye.

So needless to say, this trip was way overdue for the both of us.  It was also the first time our husbands have really ever spent any time together and it turns out they are two peas in a pod themselves.  The trip was just perfect and definitely not long enough!
