What is gochujang?

If you have never cooked with gochujang sauce, I highly recommend adding it to your refrigerator condiment staples. Gochujang sauce is a fermented Korean sauce that has sweet, slightly spicy, and umami flavors and can be found in most grocery stores on the Asian food aisle. Its great to add to chicken, seafood, fried rice, ribs, and so much more! In this recipe I combine the gochujang with soy sauce and honey for a sticky, savory, with a hint of sweetness sauce that is irresistible.

Are there other ways to prepare the salmon?

I love throwing my salmon on the grill for this recipe because it creates a smokey flavor and char from the grill and combined with the sauce, its just delicious. If you are intimidated to grill salmon, fear not because it really isn’t that hard! The main thing is coating the salmon with nonstick spray or oil before adding to the grill to prevent sticking! However, if you don’t have a grill, this recipe can be done in a skillet or in the oven as well and it will be delicious.

What to serve alongside the salmon?

I serve this gochujang salmon up with jasmine rice and marinated cucumbers, but it would also be great with noodles and any other vegetables on the side! This is truly one of our favorite healthier weeknight dinners that can be on the table in no time! I can’t wait for you to give this recipe a try for yourself!

  • Serve with rice, marinated cucumbers, and then top off with the extra sauce, green onions, and sesame seeds.

Note: for the cucumbers I simply add salt and seasoned rice vinegar and toss to combine.
