Easy Sausage and Pimento Cheese Pinwheels

Easy Sausage and Pimento Cheese Pinwheels

Sausage and Pimento Cheese Pinwheels are one of the best appetizers to make during the holiday season. They are not only made with just a few simple ingredients, but with the help of store bought pimento cheese and pizza dough, this recipe couldn’t be any easier to make. Whether you are hosting a party, bringing an appetizer to a holiday gathering, or serving these pinwheels up as part of breakfast, everyone will love these sausage and pimento cheese pinwheels this holiday season.

For the ingredients:

  • Pizza dough: Feel free to use your favorite brand of pizza dough or if you want to make your own, you could go that route as well. I like to use pizza dough from the freezer section of my local grocery, but even the refrigerator Pillsbury pizza dough works great here.

  • For the pimento cheese: I also use my favorite brand of pimento cheese, so feel free to use whatever your favorite brand is here. Most grocery stores will have pre-made pimento cheese that you can use! Again, if you have a favorite homemade pimento cheese recipe, feel free to use that as well.

  • For the sausage: I like to use a spicy breakfast sausage in this recipe, but you could definitely go for a mild sausage if you prefer. Simply break up and brown the sausage in a skillet before adding it on top of the pimento cheese

Variations of this recipe:

  • Make this recipe gluten free by swapping regular pizza dough for gluten free pizza dough.

  • Add scrambled eggs to make these perfect for a breakfast bite.

  • Omit the sausage for a meatless version.

  • Use puff pastry instead of pizza dough.

  • Make larger pinwheels and bake them in a regular sized muffin tin.

These easy sausage and pimento cheese pinwheels are so easy to make and they are irresistible as well. You won’t be able to eat just one! I can’t wait for you to give this recipe a try this holiday season! You are going to love these.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Premade Pizza Doughs

  • 1 Lb. Spicy Breakfast Sausage

  • 2 Cups Pimento Cheese

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 425.

  • Cook sausage in a skillet, breaking it up into small pieces until browned and cooked through.

  • Roll our pizza dough into a rectangle shape and spread 1 cup of the pimento cheese leaving 1 inch edge around the dough.

  • Sprinkle half of the sausage across the pimento cheese in an even layer.

  • Roll up the dough long ways and pinch the seam together to seal.

  • Cut the rolled up dough into 1 inch pinwheels and place into a greased mini muffin tin. Alternatively you can cut into larger pinwheels and place into a large muffin tin. (Mini will make 9-12 pinwheels per pizza dough.

  • Repeat the process with the second pizza dough and bake for 15-20 minutes until the dough is golden and cooked though.
