Easy Homemade Biscuits

I grew up in Tennessee and homemade biscuits were something that were weekend regulars at breakfast time. If you grew up in the south too, a good biscuit was probably a part of your childhood memories as well and maybe even if you didn’t grow up in the south! There really isn’t anything quite like a warm biscuit spread with a butter and a little jam or honey fresh out of the oven to start the day. I can’t really think of anything better to add to a brunch menu than homemade biscuits and if you are planning a nice stay at home Mother’s Day brunch, then these biscuits would be just perfect! While it took me years of being adult to actually start making my own biscuits, now that I do I see just how easy it really is and I can’t wait to show you how to do it too. Easy homemade biscuits will have you channeling your inner Ina (or in my case my Great Aunt Blanche) and they will come out perfect every single time.

All you need is a few ingredients, that I bet you already have in your fridge and pantry, to make mouth watering biscuits that come out perfectly golden and fluffy every single time. A little flour, butter, and milk is all you need for the perfect biscuit base. The dough comes together very easily and biscuits in general do not require a ton of kneading so the effort is truly minimal. The best part is your family and friends will totally be impressed by your skills and you don’t have to let them in on the secret that they are easy to make.

These biscuits are delicious enough on their own with a little butter and jam, but feel free to go big with sausage and gravy, make a bacon egg and cheese sandwich, or even use them as a topping for a chicken pot pie! The possibilities are endless and I can guarantee you will be so glad that you don’t have to buy canned biscuits anymore because the taste of a homemade biscuit is just in a league of its own.

With Mother’s Day approaching and most of us staying at home for brunch this year, make it special with some buttery biscuits added to your menu! I also do realize that most of us mom’s still end up making our own breakfast the morning of as well as for the rest of the family, but hey might as well make it delicious! Right?

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups All Purpose Flour

  • 1 Tsp. Kosher Salt

  • 1 Tbsp. Baking Powder

  • 6 Tbsp. Cold Unsalted Butter

  • 3/4 Cup Whole Milk

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

  • Combine flour, salt, and baking powder together in a large bowl and whisk to combine.

  • Cut butter into pea size squares and then add to the flour mixture.

  • With your hands, combine the butter into the flour, breaking it up as you mix until the butter is evenly distributed throughout the flour. Alternatively, you can use a pastry cutter, but I like using my hands.

  • Slowly pour milk into the flour and butter mixture with a wooden spoon and stir until just combined. Dough should be slightly wet.

  • Lightly flour a clean surface and turn dough out onto it.

  • Lightly flour hands and then knead the dough by folding it over on top of itself a few times until dough is smooth. Form into a ball and then using your hands, pat the dough into a large circle until it is about 1/2” thick.

  • Use a biscuit cutter, or a small round glass and dip into flour to prevent sticking. Then cut each biscuit out, reshaping the dough when needed until you have 8-9 biscuits.

  • Place onto a parchment lined baking sheet, close together for less done biscuits or 2 inches apart for more golden brown biscuits. Bake for 10-15 minutes until tops of biscuits are golden brown.
