Scrumptious Chicago, Part One

I have been dying to tell you more about my girl's weekend in Chicago since I have been back.  Partly because I have been missing it quite a bit and talking about it with you always brings me right back to the trip!  There is a reason I named this post Scrumptious Chicago, and it's because I mean it.  Literally.  My friend Rachel and I ate our way through the city one restaurant at a time until we had our fill of all things delicious!

Here's the deal, we shopped, we ate, we shopped some more, we laughed hard, slept in, and drank loads of bubbles and wine.  It couldn't have been more perfect honestly.  Rachel is a great traveling buddy and that could be because we are very much on the same page when it comes to traveling.  Experience the city through the food, have no agenda, and see what the day brings!   We just went with the flow and walked where our boots took us.

Let's start with the most amazing croissant that these lips have ever tasted.  An almond croissant to be exact.  If I haven't told you before I'm telling you now, I sort of have an obsession with almond desserts. And this croissant could be considered breakfast or dessert in my book.  We inhaled it within the first hour of being there at the cutest French bakery called La Fournette.  From there we immediately began shopping.  Naturally.

After we felt like we had walked off a little of the croissant and our tummies were telling us that it was time for some more food and perhaps a little wine, we headed to The Purple Pig.  Which was so great, we had salt roasted beets with goat cheese and pistachios, fried brussel sprout leaves with lemon and chili flakes, and then we ate a big ole turkey leg that might have been one of the best things I have ever eaten!  I would highly recommend this restaurant, but it is always jamming, so be prepared to wait!

That night we had plans on going to a bubble lounge which is basically just a really expensive place to drink champagne, but we left due to the price for 3 oz. of champagne and because the man sitting next to us gave us a fabulous recommendation on a dinner spot that served Lambrusco, which is a sparkling red wine.  We were in.  And it was one of the best meals we had.  We started off with an antipasto plate where we ate the most amazing olives I have ever eaten along with prosciutto, salami, a soft cheese, and yummy bread.  We split a tomato basil pizza after and went home two happy gals!

Lambrusco is where it's at y'all!  Just sayin'...

The next day we were pooped and not to mention it was freezing and rainy, so we slept in and starting watching Sex and the City episodes until, yep, you guessed it...until we got hungry.  What sounds better on a rainy day than a big juicy burger right?  Especially when they are served with Parmesan Garlic Herb Fries...yes I'll have another right now please.

I know a few who might be on the verge of judging us about now due to our food consumption...it's ok, I forgive you, but this is how I roll on vacation.  And come on it's Chicago!  Just so you know,  we probably won't be vacationing together if you don't feel the same way about scouring the city for delicious eats throughout the whole trip.

Ok back to the burgers.  They were old school, and delicious from a cute little hole in the wall place called Edzo's and they were just what we were craving.  We burned off those calories by swinging by Oz Park and then by laying on the couch watching eighteen episodes of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha taking over NYC, ha.  To top off a great day, we ordered a deep dish pizza (with salad to make it healthy of course) and drank bubbly and consumed an amazing chocolate mousse from a great grocery nearby.  We decided to call it a night by finishing off our Sex and the City marathon and going to bed early.

The next day we decided to head to Millennium Park and see the bean of course and to do some more shopping.  The bean sculpture is pretty incredible.  It's so cool watching all of these people gathered in one spot taking pictures of each other and experiencing the same memory from all of our trips to Chicago.  We took pictures until we had to make ourselves stop and hit the stores to get some serious shopping accomplished.

Oh hey, there we are!

And since you are probably starving at this point after looking at all of those food pics (I know I am), I'll hold off on showing you what we ate for lunch after this shot for another day!

See why I am calling it scrumptious Chicago?

I'm pretty much in love with this city and can't wait to share the rest of the girlie details with you later this week!
