My Diary of Us

Scrumptious Chicago, Part Two

I hope that you aren't tired of good food yet.  Because there is plenty more to be had.  The last post that you read, we were standing at the bean sculpture taking pictures of the city and our reflections and were pretty entertained by it I must say.  From there, we headed to the shops around the area including H&M and Anthropologie of course.  After once again working up at appetite (surprise surprise), we headed to The Gage, where we sipped Prosecco, and split pub-style fried pickles (one of my southern favorites jazzed up), fish and chips, and because we needed something lighter a delicious scallop salad with grapefruit and butter lettuce.

Caught in a not so flattering pic stuffing my face with a fried pickle...

That scallop salad was so good guys, oh yeah and I forgot to mention that it had grilled cucumbers on it, which I was expecting to not be crazy about, but turns out the flavor was great! Yum!

We left the restaurant and visited a few more shops and then headed back to Lincoln Park which is where we were staying.  We stopped by a cool bar on the way home to have a cocktail and an appetizer.  We ordered dirty martinis (which I have to have very dirty) and some homemade, soft pretzel balls served with beer cheese and grainy mustard.

I know it looks like we never had a break from eating and drinking, but I promise we did, everything here is spaced with hours in between.  I guess I was too overwhelmed with shopping to take pictures of anything else besides food.  Oops.  You probably expect it from me at this point though.

And yes, they were as good as they look!  But who doesn't love a soft pretzel and then dunked in cheese...too much goodness right there.

We headed back to the house after our pit stop to hang out, refresh from the day, and get ready to go out that night.  Since we had had a chill day the day before, we decided we needed to go out on the town.  We did my favorite kind of dinner of bread, cheese, and olives while we got ready and then hit the bars.  We stayed out until 2 which is by far the latest I have stayed out in maybe 3 years, maybe longer.  We had a blast!

Followed by a great night, we headed to get a great cup of coffee and walked to the same French bakery, La Fournette, for breakfast.  From there we hit up The Spice House where I spent over fifty dollars on different spice blends!  It was so exciting for me!  Like a giant candy store for spices.  I couldn't stop.  After I had weighed myself down with a bag of spices, we decided that Wicker Park sounded like a good way to spend our last full day in Chicago.  So we hopped into a cab and yes shopped some more and ate some more.

We ended up at Big Star, which you absolutely have to go to if you are in the Wicker Park area.  It is always jammed packed no matter the time of day, but totally worth the wait!  We had great guacamole, margaritas, chorizo and poblano cheese dip, and two tacos.  One taco was a take on the old school Frito pie, but taken to a more delicious level!  We couldn't resist ordering it.

I'm just going to say this food was killer!  Also, the sun was non existent the whole trip except it peeked out this particular afternoon which added to it's perfection.

We headed back home because we had spent too much money and our bellies were full and we needed a little break after walking in heels all afternoon.  The price of fashion right?

Since it was our last night, we decided to stay in the Lincoln Park neighborhood and eat dinner at a quaint little Italian restaurant (good thing our reservation was not until 8:30 so we could be hungry again) where the pasta is most definitely homemade and we decided on a fried mozzarella appetizer topped with arugula and was drizzled with balsamic syrup and then ordered two different pasta dishes for the entrée.

Side note:  Most meals that we had on this trip we split, but when it comes to pasta, we had to have our own.  You understand right?

After dinner we went to the Lincoln Hotel bar which is on the top floor and overlooks the city.  We had a glass of Prosecco, which ended up being our chosen drink this trip, so it was fitting.  We recapped the week and savored our last night in Scrumptious Chicago.

I could not think of a better way to end our trip.  It was another great night with a great friend making memories.

You will not believe this...in all of the food that we ate on this trip, the one thing that we realized we had not eaten was a Chicago style hot dog!  And you have to eat one of those right?  So what did we do?  We rallied and found one at the airport...and y'all it was on point!

Now that's a way to end a trip if you ask me, down to the very last hour!

The time had come...we boarded the plane and headed back to Louisiana after such a great weekend in Chicago!

I must go back in the summer...
