I'm at Round Top this week helping out my mom who has a booth here. It's such a fun place full of antiques and artisans. It never fails, it's always super hot outside and we usually find ourselves with a mimosa popsicle or a cold beer before noon (because that's just what you do here), and I got to thinking that a bloody mary would be delicious too! So this time I'm making my own and serving them up for our thirsty Thursday, before noon, cocktail of choice. Say hello to my Bloody delicious Mary's and you need them in your life sooner than later!
I made apple pies on Sunday...mini apple pies. They are adorable and delicious. I made them last year for the first time and fell in love. I have a confession...I never used to like apple pie. I didn't like the big chunks of apple, but I loved the crust. True story, my best friend and I still to this day are the perfect pie eating pair. She loves the filling, I love the crust. We could polish off one of her grandmother's cushaw pies (similar to pumpkin in taste) by ourselves, two spoons in hand. It's still one of my favorite memories. It brings me back to fall in Tennessee which is one of the most beautiful places when fall rolls around. I love all Fall things, like apple pie...
My mini apple pies have smaller chunks of apple and a good crust layer on top and bottom so they are right up my ally. This time though, I added some amazing spiced whip cream to the top inspired from Offbeat + Inspired and let me tell ya. It's a game changer.
Just cover me in whip cream and I'll die happy.
Yesterday Canean and I slept in, went to the grocery store filled up our buggy with breakfast food and junk food (cringe) for the day. It was his idea, but I didn't say no, because you need those days sometimes and well, peer pressure. This regularly happens when he goes to the store with me, which is why he usually doesn't... Our cart was filled with chips, cookies, bacon, moon pies, and some other "essentials" for the day and waking up this morning I have a junk food hangover. Oh and I made apple pies... Geez, I am so ready for a healthy meal tonight. My Italian braised pork chops are the perfect weeknight meal to counteract my junk food intake yesterday and to stop by body from hating me.
Because it does right now.
Have you heard of pickle chicken? Sounds a little strange maybe, unless you are an avid pickle lover like me. And if you are, then you are more intrigued than anything. I'm going to need you to trust me on this one, because it will be your new favorite way to marinate your chicken from now until forever. With football season in full swing, we get to eat as much game day food as we want and grilled pickle chicken wings with Greek yogurt ranch are delicious and a healthier alternative to your normal deep fried wing smothered in full fat dressing.
This quite possible is one of the easiest recipes that I have or will ever give you. I think I should maybe call this recipe magical pickle chicken because it kind of acts like the perfect brine and creates super moist chicken with a golden and crispy skin.
You've waited patiently and the moment has come. It's time for bourbon cocktails and dessert, which is serious business. Yesterday you read all about the bourbon butter paninis and the salad that has the yummiest bourbon Dijon vinaigrette from the bourbon dinner that I did with Lindsey from Maker's Workshop, but I know what you really want. It's time for the good stuff.
I don't blame you honestly. The drink is the whole reason this night was decided upon in the first place. Lindsey threw out the idea for me to make a cider cocktail using bourbon and we ran with it evolving it from just a drink into an everything must have bourbon in it extravaganza!
Best. Idea. Ever.
Did you know that September is Bourbon Month? You only have seven more day to celebrate it, but don't worry because I'm about to share with you the right way to do it. I partnered up with my one of my favorite people and friends, Lindsey, from Maker's Workshop to bring you the ultimate bourbon dinner, guaranteeing to fulfill all of your bourbon dreams.
There is Bulleit Bourbon in every recipe and Billet and Blade was kind enough to send us handcrafted serving pieces that made for a beautiful presentation.
I've decided that cooking with bourbon might be almost as good as drinking bourbon. You can drink it while you cook of course, so why wouldn't you want to cook with bourbon? Lindsey and I partnered up to bring you the ultimate bourbon night. Everything from bourbon infused butter, bourbon vinaigrettes, bourbon and spiced walnuts. infused bourbon cocktails, and a chocolate bourbon surprise...I know, you are getting excited just thinking about it right?
